Communicable diseases are diseases that are spread from one person to another. Visit the New York Department of Health website for more information, as well as a complete list of communicable diseases.
Prevention Is Key:
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth because this is how germs spread.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough and sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash, then wash your hands or use alcohol-based hand cleanser.
Get your flu shot, as well as any other vaccines that are available to prevent certain illnesses.
If you are sick with the flu, avoid contact with people until at least 24 hours after your fever is gone (without use of any fever-reducing medicine).
Stay home from work or school if you are ill.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, or alcohol-based hand cleanser.
